Well I guess it's our curse as well as our blessing - being able to think and reason and feel deeply is a gift, but it also means we can turn it all inward, and we're able to compare ourselves to others. I'm curious about that poem, you can't remember anything else about it?

I think I found it!

I didn't remember any of the lines or even the author's name but I do remember one of his other sonnets.

They say public speaking is the most common fear (whell, that and Eve pulling the plug on her online content someday 😲 ). Putting ourselves out there risks judgement and rejection . . . and another long-shot chance to succeed. Something that can help is knowing that most people have felt the same fear we feel, and most of them will be sympathetic. Turns out, I’m no different. If I feel like everyone else does in this situation, then by definition I can do this.
Conforming is uninteresting. It may be better to find stronger enthusiastic connections with a few people who really get you, than try to appeal to the average person in average ways.

That's a great point - I used to say this to myself while studying chemistry. This can be understood, by human brains. I have a human brain. Ergo...
And I totally agree, connecting with someone who gets you is gold, Jerry. Gold!

This Friday check-in makes a very good point that should be a common tool, one would think, for getting through life's little challenges...but we, probably more often than not, tend to stress or even panic as our first response. As you remind us, breath and evaluate first before panic sets in.

I know we can't always control our feelings in the moment, but I think in general some people go through life thinking they're defective or broken, when they absolutely aren't.

I can rationalize this, but emotionally, I have such a hard time. "This one I'm gonna fuck with" hits too close to home! Sometimes I think God is teasing me! The life experience just seems to fit the evidence. It's like the Sun revolving around the Earth. It makes sense even if it's wrong..
It could be partly egotistical as well, to be "special" in a bad way. To be "uniquely broken". It reminds me of some old English poem that I can't remember anything about it other than my high school English teacher explaining that it's about someone so prideful that they thought their sin was so bad that even God could not fix it.
But I guess I'll have to keep trying...just like everyone else :P
