    Haha, I guess it's a convention in romance novels that male leads never smell bad in breath or body even after a day and night's worth of brisk exertion in mountainous terrain. What soap does Erik use? Maybe he's listened to advice in a special unreleased episode of Eve's Guide for Irregular Guys. :P

    And, Dr. O'Neill really knows her stuff, with the trusty body heat procedure...accompanied with obligatory divesting of all garments and snuggly skin-to-skin contact to facilitate se- uh, thermal transference. If this book were made into a movie, I can see an opportunity for product placement with that bottled spring water she gulps down (Evian, what else?) And perhaps a spot of foreshadowing, Alex hopes, because she's desperate to be gulping down something else sooner rather than later. ;-)

    I can definitely feel the slow burn you're aiming for here, with Erik still retreating into his granitic fortress of solitude, and I can empathize with Alex's frustration at his stubborn mien. Still, the hairline cracks are there and they're widening inexorably. It's only a matter of time, muahahaha! For now, though, he can show ascetic monks a thing or two about self-denial.

      Oh there about a thousand 'realistic' things that one leaves out of romance novels, trust me :P

      Since you seem pretty knowledgeable about hormones, I should also mention that there are some very obvious side effects of steroids that I conveniently have Alex ignore for the sake of delicacy :P

    Lightning strikes twice as Eric saves Alex's life again. But still he isn't melting - or is he?

    At least Eric has assured Alex that, "You can do anything." But how is she going to pull off this mission of hers? Eric seems impossible.

    Maybe, if he does have to tie her to the bed in the cabin... Maybe that's when he'll get close enough for her desre to kindle his?
