I wonder how Emma would react if she knew that she was the subject of such an intense debate? Mr Knightly certainly makes a very lucid case but Mrs Weston is very much biased, her opinion colored by her close association with Emma, more friend than governess! And is she hiding some aspiration for Emma that she did not bring to the discussion with Mr Knightly? Will Mr Knightly keep his council from others as he promised?
