      Daylight Savings Time has its critics and its share of abolitionists, but to make it even more complicated at the international level, the U.S. and the U.K. (and by extension Canada and Ireland) have to roll back on arbitrarily different dates! :P

          I looked it up for you. Nevada does observe it, but you weren't far off because neighbouring Arizona doesn't, and neither does Hawaii. I know that in Canada Saskatchewan stays on DST year-round so it's synced with Central Time although it is technically situated in the Mountain Time zone. And in BC, some communities in the Peace River region like Fort St. John have unchanging clocks too.

          Time zones too are so arbitrary and don't always stick to a logical scheme. For example Russia cut its number of time zones from 11 to 9 in 2010, and ALL of China, which spans a geographical extent comparable to the continental US, runs on Beijing Standard Time. And closer to you, France and Spain are GMT +1 despite being directly south of the U.K., yet Portugal's clock matches yours. Geography was my major so I still find this stuff fascinating. :)

            A geography major, that's rare. Was it mostly studying land, geology, environment, etc? Or was it more human geography and development?

              I tailored my UBC program to incorporate courses in both physical and human geography for a more well-rounded education, and after grad I specialized in spatial information systems, the science which has given us Google Earth/Maps and location-based services apps.
