So here we are again...I've just asked you what you think I should do about this guy I like....

and here's the story arc you chose!

But to have a bit of fun, and based on a listener comment, I decided to record short audios of the other two options, to show how choosing those would end the story. I don't know if this is something I can or want to keep up through the series, but it was fun to try. :p

To judge from our protagonist's POV as related to the object of her secret admiration, he sounds like quite the catch! Whether or not she has in common a certain food allergy with the author, she's definitely enticed by the sort that is possessed of a depth and dimensionality composed of multiple layers. :P Kind of like many of your audios!

I'm glad I voted for option 2 in your first poll; him being savvy to her feelings about him, to me, makes the most sense given the implied emotional intelligence and keen interpersonal awareness that are part and parcel to his characterization/charm. To leave abruptly...well, the lack of resolution would keep me up all night were I him. Although maybe these alternative routes would make for more dramatic tension if this was a TV show.

When she lingers a bit on how he's talented, I thought - He plays a mean guitar doesn't he? :P

haha yes, while I appreciate the analogy, please keep any and all onions away from me!

And it's funny, I wasn't thinking of any talent in particular, I was just trying to make it sound like she almost blew it by saying something he did :P

Oh wait, I didn’t know that there was a part 3. I thought this was the ending. And I hope my previous comment didn’t come across as overly critical. I love your audios!

Well thank you! Yeah, that would've been a bit of a bummer if that was the end! :P

    SPOILER WARNING***

Which one of these options is considered the “happy option”? It seems like your character doesn’t get what she wants in any scenario.

The way you voice changes throughout the audio drives me crazy (in a good way)! It's like I can feel that tension you describe and when you're all happy and giddy, switching over to that flirty whisper...<3, describing that moment when it turned from friends to want-to-be lovers...so much yes! And then I can feel it turn colder and more business-like towards the end, when you ponder the realization that if he knows you're into him, then why hasn't he made a move?

I don't even know where it goes from here, what are the options going to be for part 3??? How are they going to break the ice and make out already!??!?!?!

I'm really enjoying the longer series. The realism is too real which, to me, is great.

Thank you! I'm glad it feels real!

The alternate audios are fascinating, if brief, explorations of the bad consequences of not taking proper ownership of one's desires. It's especially absurd in Option 2, where our heroine frames her genuine overture as a kind of "dry run" for an encounter with some other man. This would be discomfiting behaviour to many men, even if they weren't attracted to the woman engaging in the behaviour.

Her resolution at the end of Option 2 is the worst thing about it: failing to recognise that her defense mechanism, which obscures her purpose and multiplies the plausible interpretations of her conduct, is the precise reason why she didn't get what she wanted, she concludes that "there are plenty more fish in the sea". That's an ethos that will continue to subvert her until she takes responsibility for herself.

I'd be remiss to not acknowledge that there is a similar failing implicit in the silent deuteragonist's anguished reaction to the heroine's cack handed approach. This shoddy critique of mine focuses on the heroine not because of her singular responsibility in these exchanges, but because of our greater access to her motivations.

In the end I found both alternate audios deeply frustrating, precisely because I could believe them, having seen so many romances thwarted by similar subterfuge; sometimes by my own. This is actually a compliment. Fantastic work!

Well thank you very much, that was a very thoughtful comment! I always believe there's so much more going on beneath the surface when it comes to sex and romance, and it's nice to explore that a little sometimes.

Gah, not wanting to spoil anything for others who come after me, all I can say is that I'm a big ol' softie and hadn't voted to mess you/her about. Nevertheless, I absolutely love these longer-form CYOA scenarios and can't wait to see how things progress from here.

The part where you were talking about being playfully sexual in a relationship really resonated with me, too. I hope we get to see some of that around the end of the story! Please.

Oh, and thanks for the two short options. They both made me laugh, number one especially so. I'm sure it's a lot more work to come up with additional branches to the story, but it was appreciated.

Thank you so much! I really enjoy this too, and I'm beyond delighted that so many people are enjoying it too. I honestly don't know where it will go, but that's part of the fun!
